Here is copy from the fan's email:
You are easily the worst GM in the NFL. Chud, Crennel and Tucker should NOT have jobs. How the hell do you play prevent defense the entire game? How do you NOT use Jerome Harrison more? Why the hell would you throw the ball with 6 minutes left? This is officially a regime that is worse than Butch Davis'. By the way, just like last week - this email was written while the Browns still had the lead.In my humble opinion that is no worse than what any other fan says or thinks. I agree with this fan's take on Crennel, and some of the play calling. But worse than Butch Davis' regime? I do not think so. Phil Savage's reply was funny, even if it seems beneath a GM for a response.
Here is Savage's unnecessary and questionable response:
What is bad is that Savage himself has yet to address the media regarding this latest incident. When something like this get's out, I think the damage control team should be on high alert and put out the fire before it takes on a life of it's own. From: Savage, Phil

In Crennel's press conference he addressed the issue and DEFENDED Savage's comments!
"I heard something about it this morning," said Crennel. "We all get frustrated at times. Phil, generally, like the rest of us tries to be professional and hold it in, but sometimes some things slip out. It's unfortunate that it slipped out. But (in) tough times, tough things happen. I'm sure if we had to do it over again, we'd do it a little bit differently. I talked to him this morning and said we just have to hang in there, keep fighting and try to get this thing turned."
Unfortunately, this may be what finally slams the door on Savage on his way out the door. The 2008 season has been a complete disaster, and this is just the latest in a string of questionable actions by the front office this season. While my initial reaction was to laugh, this really exposes the deeper problems with the Browns. I have completely lost faith in ownership and management. How this can be allowed to continue is beyond me. Randy Lerner needs to move his focus from soccer, to his father's legacy on the North Shore of Ohio. Our Browns are quickly reclaiming the title of “Laughing Stock of the NFL.”
If Savage was willing to suspend and fine Winslow for comments detrimental to the team, what makes him any better? Lerner should suspend Savage and fine him one months salary.
Savage should come out and say he was wrong for bashing a fan, regardless of the fans actions. As the GM he should be held to a higher standard. This email made him look no better than the fan that sent the email.

Report: Browns will give Cowher $8-9 million to coach

Given general manager Phil Savage's response to an e-mail from a fan and the lack of response to coach Romeo Crennel by the Cleveland Browns it should come as no surprise that there a rumors about potential changes.
Quoting an unnamed source, Profootballtalk.com is reporting the Cleveland Browns have reached out to former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach and current television analyst Bill Cowher about joining the Cleveland franchise.
Per the source, the Browns are willing to give Cowher a contract worth $8 million to $9 million per year.
Presumably, Cowher's arrival would occur only if Savage were fired or significantly marginalized. Cowher would want final say over personnel, and Cowher would want to install one or more of his former Steelers colleagues into key positions.
Likely candidates, if they can finagle a path out of Pittsburgh, would be director of football operations Kevin Colbert and/or director of business operations Omar Khan.
Cowher played for the Browns (i.e., Ravens) from 1980 through 1982, and he served as special teams coach in 1985 and 1986. He was moved to defensive backs coach in 1987, and he remained in that position through 1988.
