The Dead Collector (DC) - “Bring out yer dead!”-------------------------------------------------------------
Man with Dead body (Man) - “Here's one.”
DC - “That'll be ninepence.”
Not Dead Guy (NDG) - “I'm not dead.”
DC - “What?”
Man - “Nothing. There's your ninepence.”
NDG - “I'm not dead.”
DC - “'Ere, he says he's not dead.”
Man - “Yes he is.”
NDG - “I'm not.”
DC - “He isn't.”
Man - “Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.”
NDG - “I'm getting better.”
Man - “No you're not, you'll be stone dead in a moment.”
DC - “Well, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations.”
NDG - “I don't want to go on the cart.”
Man - “Oh, don't be such a baby.”
DC - “I can't take him.”
NDG - “I feel fine.”
Man - “Oh, do me a favor.”
DC - “I can't.”
Man - “Well, can you hang around for a couple of minutes? He won't be long.”
DC - “I promised I'd be at the Robinsons'. They've lost nine today.”
Man - “Well, when's your next round?”
DC - “Thursday.”
NDG - “I think I'll go for a walk.”
Man - “You're not fooling anyone, you know. Isn't there anything you could do?”
NDG - “I feel happy. I feel happy.”
[the Dead Collector looks around to see if any is watching then whacks the Not Dead Guy with a club]
Man - “Ah, thank you very much.”
DC - “Not at all. See you on Thursday.”
Man - “Right.”
The above is taken from the script of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. To me this sums up what we have witnessed this season with the Browns. They think they are not dead yet, the fans even thought so, yet everyone else in the nation took them out back to the dead collector. With the recent loss to the Texans and the loss of Brady Quinn for the rest of the season, someone finally knocked us over the head and we are dead now.
Nothing good can immediately come from this. First of all, we will not get to evaluate Quinn for any extended period of time and that will hurt us on draft day. If Derek Anderson finds some of the little magic he had shown last season it opens up a QB controversy, something we don't need. But if he does play well, he increases he trade value, so maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel? But if DA is “Bad DA”, we'd be lucky to get a 5th round pick for him and we'd still have no confirmation on Quinn.
With the turmoil we have witnessed this season, we are in for some major overhauls which will put us back at least a season or two, or dare I say more? Braylon Edwards star power is rising, but so are his number of drops. Could he be an off-season casualty? Kellen Winslow in my mind has done nothing wrong but play harder than any other Browns player with the exception of Joshua Cribbs, Jamal Lewis and Phreakin' Phil Dawson. With his outburst earlier this season, he may have punched his ticket out of town which will leave us with a huge offensive hole to fill. Regardless of what fans may think of him, he is our best offensive threat and a perenial Pro-Bowler. That's a guy you keep on the team.
With regards to the front office, it is more than obvious that this is Romeo Crennel's last season. Brown's fans can only hope that the next hire is more permanent and has proven NFL winning experience. (Bill Cowher anyone?) I believe that Randy Lerner will get it done and he will do what he thinks is right. The only problem is, if they bring Cowher in, where does that leave Phil Savage? I think Savage has done almost everything right since he has gotten here, I really beileve he just made a huge mistake in the hire of RAC.
My only response to this season is - Bring out yer dead!
Happy Thanksgiving to anyone who may actually read this. Since I may not be posting agin until after the weekend, the score this weekend will be disgusting. Peyton Manning goes off and local boy Anthony Gonzalez has a huge day. Colts 35 - The Not Quite Dead Yet Browns 13.
